Iran's Bushehr safe after earthquake

Atomstroyexport, the Russian company that has built Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant, has said the 6.1-earthquake that has struck a town near the plant has not affected the operations in the facility, Press TV has reported. "The earthquake in no way affected the normal situation at the [Bushehr nuclear] reactor. Personnel continue to work in the normal regime and radiation levels are fully within the norm," a company official said. Bushehr, Iran's only functioning nuclear-power reactor, was commissioned by the country's deposed Shah in 1975 and only began producing electricity in September 2011.
