Iraq picks STX to build Amara power plant

The Iraqi electricity ministry has awarded STX Heavy Industries Co, the industrial plant business unit of South Korea's STX Group, a $150m contract to build and operate a power plant in the country, Reuters has reported. Under the turnkey contract, the power plant to be equipped with four 125 megawatt gas turbines will be built in the south-eastern Iraqi district of Amara by June 2014, said STX Heavy Industries. STX will also take responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the plant for a year after its completion.
