ISESCO to hold high-level meeting in Jeddah for quality and accreditation experts in higher education

The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, jointly with the Ministry of Higher Education of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, will organize a high-level quality and accreditation experts' meeting, in Jeddah, on 6-7 October 2012, to follow up the implementation of the 'Key Performance Indicators: Guidelines for Assessment, and Quality Enhancement for Universities in the Islamic World' document which was adopted by the Extraordinary Session of the Islamic Conference of Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research held in Riyadh, capital-city of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in October 2011.

The experts participating in this meeting will examine and finalize the draft guidelines for the implementation of the key performance indicators which were prepared by ISESCO.

They will also review the progress made by Member States in this regard to help improve the quality of higher education at the universities of the Islamic world.

In addition, the experts' meeting will consider the broader aims of quality assurance including international compatibility, mutual recognition of qualifications, and cross-border mobility of academia.

The meeting is expected to develop the implementation and follow-up mechanism for the KPI document, and set up a joint follow-up committee of OIC and ISESCO Member States' experts to provide counseling on quality and accreditation, the aim being to build the capacities of Member States' higher education systems to achieve excellence in universities.

Quality assurance experts and policy-makers in charge of improving the quality of higher education in Member States will take part in this meeting.

ISESCO will be represented in this event by Dr Faiq Billal, Science Director.
