Jacky's Electronics dominates the first edition of Gitex Shopper Spring Edition

  • PRESS RELEASE

The first edition of Gitex Shopper Spring Edition ended on a high note for Jacky's Electronics, the UAE's leading multi-brand consumer electronics retailer, exceeding their initial projections set for the event.

The company emerged as the number one retailers in terms of sales revenue and achieving more than one and a half months' worth of sales during the four-day period of the event.

The first Spring Edition of Gitex Shopper, created under the directive of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, is an adapted version of the long-running Gitex Shopper held every October.

"Overall we've been quite pleased with the turnout of our participation at Gitex Shopper Spring edition," said Ashish Panjabi, COO of Jacky's Electronics.

"The footfall has been extremely healthy and consumer awareness was excellent considering the fact that this was the first time it was held. We are confident this show will go from strength to strength and we applaud the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum in envisioning the second edition of this event."

The same as the previous versions of Gitex Shopper, the notebook segment remained as the product bestsellers for the Spring Edition. The entry level Intel Core i3 processor laptops from brands such as Lenovo, Dell, Sony and HP were out of stock before the end of four-day event.

In the smartphones, Samsung was the clear winner with close to 60% share with the Samsung Galaxy Grand selling out on the third day. Nokia also recorded growth due to the launch of the newest Lumia 520 and stronger promotions done with the Asha series.

The iPhone 5 made a strong comeback with more units sold within the four days of the event as compared to the eight days of last year's Gitex Shopper.

Meanwhile, it is still Apple's ballgame in the tablet segment with the new generation of iPad continued to dominate including the introduction of iPad mini. Within the Android segment, Samsung, HCL, Eurostar and Touchmate did well too.

Samsung was still number one in the televisions due to various models that were end-of-life and at clearance prices; with Toshiba and Sony in the second and third places respectively in terms of unit sales. Nikon was the number one brand in the DSLR category followed by Canon, while Fuji Film was the most saleable in the still camera category with Samsung and Canon in the second and third.

The 3-easy-step-shopping, which Jacky's has introduced at the show also contributed to its total sales at Gitex Shopper. Dubbed as 'Select, Pay & Collect', it helped improved the overall shopping experience at Gitex Shopper by creating dedicated sales, cashiering and delivery locations that were strategically placed so that the stands were able to manage the surge in traffic during the peak hours.
