Jordanian hotels may hike room charges if 16% accommodation tax reimposed

  • Jordan: Thursday, March 28 - 2013 at 01:22

The Jordan Hotels Association (JHA) has said the government plan to reintroduce a 16% accommodation tax on the kingdom's hotels will lead to hiking accommodation fees, which will negatively impact the country's tourism sector, Jordan Times has reported. Finance minister Suleiman Hafez has recommended that the cabinet re-impose the 16% tax on room accommodation, after three years of reducing this tax to 8%. "This decision will affect the sector, which is already suffering, and we will have to add the imposed raise onto the customer's bill," said JHA executive director Yasar Majli.
