American University of Ras Al Khaimah has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries "Julphar" under which Julphar will provide ten scholarships to students without any conditions of working for the company after graduation, as well as provide a monthly stipend to each student during the study period.
Dr. Al Alkim commended Julphar for its role in supporting students by promoting science and education through these scholarships. He said the partnership between the two parties would benefit students wishing to study in the university and motivate them to study technical disciplines and engage in scientific research, thus contributing to the progress of society.
Prof. Al Alkim added that in addition to these scholarships, the university has a number of other scholarships offered in cooperation with different national institutions for Emirati and non-Emirati students, especially for those coming from remote areas. He said these initiatives reflect the importance of community outreach, and support the educational needs of the people with the ultimate aim of generating employment.
Mr. Saud Al-Nuaimi reiterated the commitment of Julphar to raise levels of knowledge and competencies in the community, and expressed the hope that these scholarships would help more students to pursue their university education, and provide support to outstanding deserving students.
Mr. Al Nuaimi explained that the agreement entails increasing the number of scholarships to ten annually, along with a monthly stipend for each student, without any conditions of working for the company after graduation. This will encourage the students to pursue their field of interest and engage in research, and thus pick up jobs of their choice.
This support from Julphar comes as part of the directives of HH Sheikh Faisal Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of Julphar, who has urged that the Company's policies should aim to build partnerships with various educational and research institutions in the country, Mr. Al Nuaimi added.
Julphar will also cooperate with the American University in Ras Al Khaimah to establish a world-class Biotechnology Laboratory with the goal of stimulating creativity and knowledge sharing and development of creative projects. It will also foster a culture of research and scientific environment with the aim of producing graduates specialized in scientific research and help create new technologies in the pharmaceutical industry.
