Jumbo Electronics, the UAE's leading retailer, witnessed 50% growth in tablets and smart phones during the four weeks of Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF).
"The Dubai Shopping Festival is definitely marked on the international shopping calendar, with many visitors to Dubai aligning their trips with the shopping event," said Nadeem Khanzadah, Head of Retail, Jumbo Electronics.
"We also see a upswing trend across all of our stores that UAE residents tend to postpone their major consumer electronics purchasing until DSF, and shop in huge numbers during these four festival weeks."
Across Jumbo stores, tablets and smartphones have grown over last year and have been the most popular of allconsumer electronic products, with an increase of 50% on 2012 DSF sales; this figure was supported by the launch of the apple iPad, the iPad mini and Samsung tablets prior to the start of DSF. The Smart phones categories were also selling strongly with the Samsung S III, iPhone 5 and the Nokia Lumia leading the brigade.
"We witnessed clear changes in buying trends, as this year saw a sharp rise in tablets and smartphones sales, as opposed to the previous DSF where smart phones were the top sellers. Best in market promotions helped maintain strong sales across both these categories," added Khanzadah.
