KAHRAMAA observes Arab Water Day

The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) is observing the Arab Water Day.

The Minister of Energy and Industry, HE Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, said, "Qatar's participation in the day's events is to reflect the importance of preserving water resources in achieving water security and to bolster the integration of the Arab world's developmental plan related to water resources and food security."

HE Al Sada expressed his thanks to HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani for forming the Permanent Water Resources Committee (PWRC) based on Emiri decision no. 19 for 2011.

HE Al Sada, who heads the committee, said, "The committee plays an important role in developing a Qatari strategy for operating its water sector effectively, consistently with Qatar National Vision 2030 and Qatar National Development Strategy 2011-2016."

In a statement issued at the occasion, the Minister also paid his gratitude to HH. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Heir Apparent for his kind patronage to the National Campaign for Conservation and Efficient Use of Water and Electricity 'Tarsheed'.

The campaign urges observing water conservation at all daily habits and development projects in Qatar. It discourage misuse in order to preserve resources for the coming genera ions. Tarsheed calls for water sustainability as thus it aligns with the theme of AWD 'water is our life, and the future of our generations, let's think sustainability'.

In his statement issued at the occasion, KAHRAMAA's president HE Essa bin Hilal al-Kuwari has called upon everyone to 'think sustainability and save water for the coming generations'.

"On this occasion, we seize the opportunity to reiterate KAHRAMAA commitment to its mission that calls for the provision of affordable and high quality electricity and water services for customers as per the highest international standards. KAHRAMAA works to develop firm basic infrastructure to efficiently provide Qatar needs for water. It sets programmes to promote the strategic water reserves in order to achieve the food security. KAHRAMAA programmes aims to cope with the great development and the expansion projects the State witnesses," HE Al- Kuwari said.

The statement was issued for Arab Water Day, which is being celebrated today under the theme 'Water is our life and the future of our generations, let's think sustainability'. The observance is being held under Arab League's theme, 'Water is our life and the future of our generations, Let us act to keep its sustainability'.

KAHRAMAA stresses its commitment to sustainable development and preservation of the environment to cooperate with ministries and national institutions concerned with upgrading and development of the water sector under the umbrella of the Standing Committee of Water Resources in an effort to achieve the objectives of the National Development Strategy 2011- 2016.
