- PRESS RELEASE
The Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) participated at Middle East Geospatial Forum 2013 at Qatar National Convention Centre.
Kahramaa was Gold Sponsor of the whole event. A number of experts from some renowned organizations such as Kahramaa, Ministry of Municipality & Urban Planning, Qatar Rail, Trimble, Google, Qatar Statistics Authority among others participated at plenary sessions with presentations and exhibition.
A number of exhibitors and delegates from the private and government sectors took part in the fair. Various other sectors were represented at exhibition. A large number of delegates and exhibitors visited Kahramaa's pavilion and showed their interests to know how Kahramaa works on geospatial technologies. Participants also shared their experiences and discussed each other's requirements, deliberated on strategies for achieving the common objectives in general and specific objectives in particular.
The forum discussed about geospatial technologies that that have greatly evolved and converged with a host of disciplines ranging from utilities, natural resource management, urban development, construction & engineering, infrastructures among others. The theme of the forum was 'Towards geo driven growth'.
The guest speakers and expert delegates put forward their presentations explaining the ways and means being used to serve their organizations' goals and objectives.
Mr. Yousuf Al- Jaidah, Kahramaa's Electricity Planning Network Manager gave his through presentation at the plenary session under the title, 'A path breaking Technology for Network maintenance and Optimization'.
Highlighting the importance of geospatial technologies at Kahramaa, he said an enterprise GIS system can help us handling comprehensive and accurate inventory of our electrical assets, interconnectivity between the assets with underground and overhead lines, retrieval of comprehensive service information within the GIS software and other prompt services.
He said that an electrical aware GIS system can make us easy to locate our electrical assets, help us in effectively managing high priorities area along with preventive maintenance scheduling.
Speaking at the occasion, he said that Kahramaa under its Electricity sector operates with 230 Primary High Voltage Substations connected by a total of 1,880 km of Primary Overhead Transmission Lines and 2,530 km of underground HV cable network. The network is coupled with 12,150 Medium voltage substations (11 kV) and more than 11,600 kilometers of underground and overhead cable lines.
Water GIS information is being utilized through GIS applications and tools in Kahramaa's day to day workflows. These tools enable water departments to effectively manage their assets, getting a deep understanding of their conditions, needs and performance of the existing water network.
GIS capabilities immeasurably facilitate faster, better- informed decision making, and support more reliable and efficient asset management and business planning.
Kahramaa water GIS maintains a precise water network information system with a positional accuracy of 30 cm of water mains, fittings, hydrants, valves, meters and storage/plumbing facilities. The water GIS dataset is also shared among other agencies in Qatar.
Kahramaa maintains a water infrastructure consisting of 6789 Km of Water pipeline networks with 28 Storage Reservoirs having total capacity of 641.5 Million Gallons, Mr. Jaidah said.
He said that Kahramaa is committed to Plan and Design Qatar's Electrical Network development using efficient technologies, data and materials and strives to satisfy our customers.
Kahramaa coordinates with other utility agencies to have a harmonious expansion of State's assets and infrastructure, he informed. To review and update Material Specifications and to ascertain with the international standard materials being used in KM's Network are strictly monitored, he added.
During his presentation, Mr. Jaidah said that Kahramaa has awarded a contract to implement an Enterprise GIS solution using ArcFM technology.
ArcFM is a powerful extension of ESRI's ArcGIS platform that provides a complete, enterprise utility solution specially for energy sector. The ArcFM Solution allows utility businesses to make use of a single integrated environment to manage and map multiple assets, leveraging all the power of ArcGIS's object-oriented system, he explained.
The event came to an end today with sharing of literatures, ideas and experiences among exhibitors and delegates.
