Khalifa University puts students on path of leadership excellence at special event

Khalifa University held its second annual Leadership Day event on February 12th at the Officer's Club in Abu Dhabi. The event was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice Chairman to Khalifa University's Board of Trustees. The evening's theme focused how to nurture and develop leadership qualities and how to succeed in an increasingly knowledge-intensive economy.
Distinguished participants included HE Dr. Mugheer Al Khaili, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Education Council, HE Mohammed Hassan Omran and HE Eng. Hussain Al Hammadi, members of Khalifa University's Board of Trustees, and esteemed national leaders HE Noura Al Kaabi, CEO of Twofour54 and Dr. Abdullatif M. Al Shamsi, Managing Director of the Institute of Applied Technology. Khalifa University students, faculty and staff enjoyed a unique opportunity to benefit from their experiences and advice on leadership.
The keynote address was given by HE Mohammed Omran, who gave an inspiring speech on leadership and the importance of a strong academic background.
"The UAE has offered an ideal environment for excellence through Khalifa University," said HE Mohammed Omran during his speech addressing the University's students, "The University is a unique opportunity for you to stand out and contribute back to the country. By being strong leaders in your practical and personal lives, you can set a great example to others and take a leading role towards success," he added.
There was also a panel discussion on leadership, which was moderated by Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi. The panel included HE Mohammed Omran, Dr. Abdullatif M. Al Shamsi, and HE Noura Al Kaabi, CEO of Twofour54.
The event also recognized students for their academic achievement and exemplary service to the Khalifa University community. Faculty and staff were also honored for excellence in research, teaching and intellectual capital as well as their dedication to the University and the communities it serves.
Awards were handed out by H.E. Dr. Mugheer Al Khaili, Khalifa University President Dr. Tod Laursen, and Executive Vice President Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi.
"This event is a wonderful opportunity for us to recognize those in the Khalifa University community who have worked exceptionally hard over the past year," said Dr. Tod Laursen.
"Whether they excelled in their studies, research endeavors, jobs, or in their dedication to volunteerism and promoting community spirit, it's important that we recognize and award their efforts. Khalifa University invests in world-class professors, equipment and opportunities for its students. It is deeply gratifying to see the academic and personal progress of our students, faculty and staff. They are truly a testament to the University and to the future of the UAE. They have represented themselves, our school, and the UAE with great distinction, and their leadership qualities are making meaningful contributions to Abu Dhabi's 2030 vision," he added.
