Kuwait's public works ministry has said a winning bid is set to be selected in the first quarter of this year from among 18 companies competing to build a new airport, Reuters has reported. The new airport will have 51 aircraft gates, with 21 slated for use by large aircraft such as the Airbus 380. The airport, which is expected to cost around KD900m ($3.2bn) and open in 2020, aims to get 25 million passengers each year, the ministry said. The current capacity of the Gulf country's only international airport is around 7 million annually.
