Lagarde says Egyptians must be convinced of need for IMF
- Egypt: Thursday, January 10 - 2013 at 01:50
Christine Lagarde, the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has said the Egyptian government must strongly endorse a $4.8bn IMF loan agreement to its people as a step towards stabilising an economy pummelled by a turbulent transition from autocratic rule, Reuters has reported. "The IMF needs to have the commitment of the political authorities that can actually endorse the program, own it, and propose it to the population as theirs," Lagarde told the news service during a visit to Ivory Coast.
