Lebanese financial firms report decline in investment portfolios

The Lebanese central bank has said the net investment portfolio of Lebanese banks and financial institutions in foreign debt and equity securities dropped 22.1% to $5.6bn at the end of June 2012, compared with $7.1bn a year earlier, The Daily Star has reported. Investments in long-term debt securities totalled $3.2 billion at the end of June 2012, representing 57.1% of the total, followed by investments in equities with $2.3bn, 41.6% of the total, while short-term debt securities accounted for $69.1m, or 1.2% of the total.
