  • Lebanon: Monday, February 04 - 2013 at 05:28

The Association of Travel and Tourists Agents in Lebanon has said local travel agencies have bucked the economic slowdown and tourism sector crisis and reported positive results during 2012, Business News has reported. Local travel agencies have registered a 9% year-on-year growth in the value of air ticket sales to around $700m, said head of the association, Jean Abboud. "We have a very active outgoing market which translated into a 12% annual growth in ticketing operations," said Abboud. The developing business market in Iraq and the ongoing turmoil in Syria also had a positive impact on local travel agencies, he said. "Our overall operations grew by 20% due to the stagnant market in Syria."
