Lebanese energy minister Gebran Bassil has announced electricity generating barges are expected to arrive to Lebanon in four months, after the finance ministry sent the first payment to the Turkish company supplying the vessels, The Daily Star has reported. Bassil also said the Turkish firm Karkey Karadeniz Elektrik Uretim is now expected to send the first barge within four months, while the second vessel should arrive within six months. In July 2012, Lebanon signed a $360m three-year contract to lease electricity-generating barges from the Turkish firm, with the first vessels due to arrive in 120 days. The two barges are expected to generate 270 megawatts of electricity.
