Lebanon suspends Safico's VoIP licence

Lebanon's telecoms ministry has announced the suspension of the VoIP licence it had awarded to Safico Com last month, The Daily Star has reported. The decision was made because Safico sought to revise the pricing scheme to ensure that it would not erode the estimated $200bn in telecoms revenues on which the country's treasury relies annually, said Karim Kobeissi, an adviser to the telecoms minister. "The prices were not defined in the license, but ... it was stated that before a company started selling services [it] should submit a price list to the Ministry of Telecommunications for approval," Kobeissi said.
