Lithotripsy inaugurated at Lifeline Hospital Salalah

Dr. Khalid Mohammed Al Mashaiky, Director General, Directorate of Health Services, Dhofar Governarate, inaugurated the Lithotripsy Unit at Lifeline Hospital Salalah on 9th January 2013.

The event showcased the lithotripsy unit, a machine used to break stones in kidney, urinary bladder and ureter.

During the function the Director General, expressed his happiness at the region now having a state of art treatment for removal of stones saying " Now patients need not wait for this essential treatment", further adding that the "The Litotripsy machine would be a boon to the region".

The Hospital Director, at Lifeline Hospitals,Oman, Dr.Rohil Raghavan, thanked Dr.Khalid Mohammed Al Mashaiky, for his continuous support to bring the latest technology to this part of Oman and added, "Lifeline Hospital strives to reduce the number of patients going to Muscat and abroad for specialized treatment and Lithotripsy is the first step in that process". He also thanked the other Ministry officials at the Ministry of Health who made this possible.

The facility brings to the Dhofar region, first of its kind treatment for removal of stones from kidneys, ureter and urinary bladder through lithotripsy. The treatment is the preferred non surgical method used for breaking stones. The procedure uses state of the art ultra modern lithotripsy machine, which has been extensively used across the world especially in Europe and US, with extremely good results.

This latest technique not only is non surgical but also more effective in removing stones than surgery. Patients getting the procedure need to stay only a couple of hours for the treatment and can go back home the very same day and get back to normal life immediately. The method is cost effective and brings to the governorate the very best of modern technology which will cater to the demands of the people for the complete region, who earlier had to travel to Muscat to get the same treatment done.

The department is ably supported by experienced staff and senior doctors who will be catering to the needs of the patient 24 hours.

The hospital also boasts of full time Orthopedic, General Surgery, and Internal Medicine with state of the art OT complex and In patient rooms with 24 hours Emergency Department, Laboratory, Radiology, ambulance and Pharmacy services.

Lifeline hospital thanks all our well wishers especially the Ministry of Health who have been supportive of our efforts to bring in such a facility to this part of Oman.
