Lord Phillips new President of Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre

Lord Phillips has a long and highly distinguished career. In 2005, he was appointed Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales and served as President of the Supreme Court of the UK until September this year.

Lord Phillips assumes the role of President upon Lord Woolf�fs retirement after 6 years of service at the QICDRC.

Lord Woolf said: �"I was honoured to receive an invitation in 2006 by His Highness the Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr Al-Thani and the Council of Ministers, to establish here in Doha a civil and commercial court. The Court has grown considerably since then and it has been a pleasure working with the Judges and staff at the QICDRC, who are committed to promoting the strong rule of law and are working tirelessly towards developing Qatar as an international centre of excellence for dispute resolution.�"

Lord Phillips said: �"On behalf of all at the QICDRC, I would like to thank Lord Woolf for his dedicated work for which we remain deeply indebted. As inaugural President of the QICDRC, Lord Woolf has overseen a significant contribution to the growth and prosperity of Qatar, especially in terms of attracting international business and financial services into the country."

�"I look forward to continuing the work of Lord Woolf and the QICDRC in leading the way towards developing genuine international standards in law in Qatar and the region," he added.

Chief Justice HE Masood Bin Muhammad Al-Ameri, said: �gI am delighted for Lord Philips' appointment as the new President of the QICDRC. Lord Philips has many years of practically proven judicial expertise and this will add value to the successful endeavour of the Court, complementing what has already carried out by his predecessor Lord Wolf.�h
