Mafraq Hospital appoints Facility's first Chief Quality Officer

  • United Arab Emirates: Sunday, September 16 - 2012 at 11:32

Mafraq Hospital, owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) - announced the appointment of Dr. Bill Brock, the first Chief Quality Officer (CQO) to serve at the 451 bed tertiary care facility located in Abu Dhabi, and one of only a handful in the entire UAE healthcare sector.

Dr. Brock brings more than three decades of professional experience in hospital quality management to the role, and is one of five new corporate level management representatives to join the team - they accompany Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Mohamad Yaman, who began his Mafraq Hospital career in 2008.

The new members of the team include Mr. Lee Huntley, Chief Executive Officer of Mafraq Hospital; Mr. Gregg Florentin, Chief Operations Officer; Mr. Peter Mercer, Chief Financial Officer, and Ms. Deirdre Hegarty, Chief Nursing Officer.

As the Chief Quality Officer, Dr. Brock has been appointed to implement best practices and standardise patient care procedures while upholding the facility's existing reputation for delivering the highest standard of treatment. As Mafraq Hospital prepares to move into a brand new 270,000 square foot, 745 bed facility in the next few years, Dr. Brock is expected to play a valuable role in the transition.

Mr. Lee Huntley commented: "We are delighted to welcome Dr. Brock to the Mafraq Hospital team and look forward to the benefits that a CQO will inevitably bring to this organisation. Led by the new senior management team, and supported by the exceptional team of existing staff members, Mafraq Hospital is well positioned to become the nation's leading institution for evidence-based healthcare."

Dr. Brock stressed the importance of generating a positive patient experience, stating: "As medical professionals, we most often meet our patients when they have reached a low point in their lives; they are generally in pain and are experiencing a sense of helplessness. These patients place their faith and trust in the expertise of their doctors and it is up to us as medical professionals to offer the highest standard of care possible.

"To date, Mafraq Hospital has been doing an exceptional job in this area, and has worked to establish itself as one of the leaning healthcare facilities in the country. I look forward to working learning a great deal from the existing team."

As one of his first key projects, Dr. Brock will be working closely with the SEHA system to establish an open network of communication between all of their owned and managed hospitals.

According to Dr. Brock, an enhanced patient experience is best realised through open dialogue: "We see an incredible opportunity for collaboration across the Emirate, and this is a task that I'm eager to initiate. Remarkable things are happening in the healthcare facilities throughout the UAE, but these successes need to be communicated more openly. In discussing and sharing our achievements and obstacles, we are better positioned to enhance the patient experience from start to finish."

Mafraq Hospital employs a total of 2,038 healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, laboratory staff, and support workers.

Operating the largest burn unit in the country and an appointed Center of Excellence for Ear Nose and Throat care and Thoracic surgery, it is a long recognised leader in patient care.
