Malaysian publishers explore opportunities for participation in Sharjah International Book Fair

The Administration of Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) received a delegation of Malaysian publishers to discuss their possible participation in the upcoming SIBF edition, which is scheduled to be held later in this current.
During the visit, the delegation viewed the publications and books written by His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The delegation praised Sheikh Sultan's role in encouraging writing and reading and supporting publishers and the book industry. They also lauded Sharjah for being the venue for a wide range of cultural events and initiatives throughout the year, as well as the urban development of its cultural facilities and various amenities, especially the development of its historical and archaeological places which have become museums and shrines rich in science, knowledge, art, and culture.
The Malaysian delegation also discussed Malaysia's possible participation in SIBF 2013 as guest of honour. SIBF Administration expressed its willingness and greatly welcomed the participation of Malaysia, promising to provide them, in line with the directives of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, with the needed facilities to support publishers, in order to further boost Sharjah's recognized cultural status and reputation in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Salim Omar Salim, Head of Sales and Marketing at SIBF, said, "We were impressed with the great interest showed by the Malaysian delegation in Arabic culture and SIBF's role in this regard. And made use of this opportunity to highlight the reasons that makes the Sharjah Book Fair a major annual cultural event sought after by book lovers."
The Malaysian delegation discussed the Translation Grant Fund, which was launched in 2011 in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Sharjah Book Fair, and is now funding the translation of 78 books that were selected from among 200 books. The delegation expressed its confidence that the grant fund would be able to achieve its set goals within a short span of time.
At the conclusion of the visit, the Malaysian delegation dedicated a number of books to SIBF and expressed their appreciation for the warm welcome and hospitality they received in the UAE and Sharjah.
They lauded the remarkable efforts by the Sharjah book Fair in supporting culture and the book industry, citing the international reputation SIBF has gained due to its ability to attract leading publishers and renowned authors from around the world, as well as its success in enhancing the reputation of Arabic culture in prestigious global events.
