  • United Arab Emirates: Sunday, October 07 - 2012 at 16:28
  • PRESS RELEASE

MBC Action, The Group's action-packed channel that targets young Arab males will broadcast live the world's most dangerous and complicated free fall jump in the history of mankind.

'Red Bull Stratos' mission will be conducted by the renowned Austrian athlete, Felix Baumgartner.

He will undertake a stratospheric balloon flight 'the largest manned balloon in history' to more than 120,000 feet '36,576 meters' and make a free fall jump aiming for supersonic speed.

During the process, Baumgartner could potentially break four world records: Reaching Supersonic speed in free fall (breaking the sound barrier); highest manned balloon flight; the longest free fall 'about 5 minutes and 30 seconds', in addition to free fall from the highest altitude.

The 'Red Bull Stratos' mission, to 'the edge of space' is set to overcome human limits of endurance that have existed for more than 50 years while delivering valuable research to increase medical and scientific understanding for future aerospace programmes.

The ascent to be conducted could require as long as three hours, and for a significant portion of that time, Felix will be surrounded by the harsh conditions of the stratosphere. The Red Bull Stratos capsule is designed to protect Felix throughout the ascent and to bring the research equipment safely back to earth after the jump.

It is worth mentioning that MBC Action will be the only TV Channel in the Middle East and North Africa region (and one of 4 channels in the world) to have been granted the rights for a live broadcast. Red Bull Stratos mission will be broadcast live on MBC Action on Tuesday, 9th of October at 14:30 KSA and 11:30 GMT.
