McLaren unveils new P1 hypercar in Paris
- UK: Tuesday, October 09 - 2012 at 03:31
British firm McLaren has unveiled in Paris its brand new hypercar, the P1, in its first appearance at an international motor show. Although billed as a design study, McLaren is to launch a production version that will appear next year and sit above the MP4-12C. The P1 will produce 600kg of downforce below its top speed, comparable to its current GT3 racer and five times as much as the MP4-12C, the carmaker said. It will also have a Drag Reduction System (DRS) just like its Formula 1 cars, although this will be activated by a moveable rear wing rather than an opening flap, it added. "Our aim is not necessarily to be the fastest in absolute top speed but to be the quickest and most rewarding series production road car on a circuit," said McLaren Automotive Managing Director Antony Sheriff. "Our goal is to make the McLaren P1 the most exciting, most capable, most technologically advanced and most dynamically accomplished supercar ever made."
