MEPS named Diamond Sponsors of Electronic and Mobile Payment Conference

Middle East Payment Services (MEPS) - the region's leading payment Services Company licensed by MasterCard - and MasterCard Worldwide announced their diamond sponsorship of the Electronic & Mobile Payment Conference organized by the Information and Communications Technology Association of Jordan (int@j).
Held under the patronage of the Minister of Information and Technology H.E. Dr. Hatem Al Halawani, the Conference was attended by int@j Chairman Mohammed Tahboub and int@j CEO Abdel Majeed Shamlawi, MEPS CEO and chairman Dr. Abdul Malik Jaber and MasterCard Worldwide vice president and country manager, Levant Basel El Tall. The Conference featured participants from related fields of expertise such as Paypal, Progress Soft and ubanquity, in addition to approximately 250 e-payment system professionals from Jordan and the region, as well as decision makers from related private sector entities and representatives from the Central Bank of Jordan.
The Electronic & Mobile Payment Conference was aimed at discussing the development of E&M payment systems and exchanging related success stories from across the Arab region. The Conference's agenda featured numerous presentations and speeches by local and regional industry experts about pressing current and future issues in the field of e-payments and smartphones, as well as key opportunities and challenges.
Over the course of the Conference, Dr. Jaber conducted a presentation on the electronic and mobile payments in the region. He underscored that the continuously evolving times we live in make it crucial that we revolutionize and enhance the e &m payment industry, both locally and regionally, in a manner that effectively caters to modern days requirements. During his presentation, Dr. Jaber revealed that the total number of e-commerce users in Jordan stood at approximately 514,000 in 2011. He also stated that e-payments have almost doubled from USD 192 million in 2010, to approximately USD 370 million in 2011.
Dr. Jaber revealed the new PayFellow system, a secure comprehensive online payment ecosystem enabler that allows customers to choose the payment method of their choice using secure transactions. PayFellow comprises a varied lineup of integrated services such as loyalty points and an online mall, amongst others. It also enables Internet and mobile users to purchase a wide range of services with utmost ease and security.
MEPS set up a designated booth and distributed brochures and flyers about the services and products it offers, as well as its new PayFellow e-payment system which is scheduled to be launched in the local market in the near future.
"Recent statistics have indicated that we are witnessing significant growth in the area of online transactions. As such, it is our responsibility to continuously search for methods to improve existing online and mobile e-payment services that are fast, efficient and save users' time and effort. Recent studies showed that 94% of customers would make payments via their mobile phones if they knew they were secure, further confirming the local market's readiness to conduct Internet and mobile payment transactions," commented Dr. Jaber.
In turn, Tahboub thanked MEPS for its diamond sponsorship of the Electronic & Mobile Payment Conference and commended the top-notch services it delivers to the market. He also expressed his gratitude to Dr. Jaber for his participation which revealed new insights into the development of e-payment systems in Jordan and the region.
