Microsoft says more affordable Windows 8 mini tablets to be available this year

Microsoft has announced its OEM partners are set to produce smaller, cheaper Windows 8 touch-enabled devices, to be available within months, Zdnet has reported. The forthcoming devices follow last month's changes introduced by Microsoft to the Windows 8 certification guidelines for OEMs, which allowed smaller resolution displays suited to the popular 7" tablet market. "[W]e also are working closely with OEMs on a new suite of small touch devices powered by Windows," said Microsoft's chief financial officer, Peter Klein. "These devices will have competitive price points, partly enabled by our latest OEM offerings designed specifically for these smaller devices, and will be available in the coming months," said Klein.
