Works Minister inaugurates Ma'ameer sewage treatment plant

The inauguration of the project comes in line with Bahrain's National Day celebrations; adding to the Ministry of Works' outstanding achievements in 2012.

During the inauguration, the Minister Khalaf commended the advanced techniques used in the plant, which are known to be environment-friendly and extremely safe for irrigation, agricultural and industrial purposes; due to their high purity levels.

The project has been implemented in line with recommendations from Municipal Councils and the Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources.

The capacity of the plant is estimated to be 2500m3/day, which can be increased to 3800 m3 a day. The plant adopts (MBR) filtration technique to treat sewage water. The project also provides a center for collecting treated waters; to be used by tankers for irrigation purposes.

The Minister also inspected the implementation of a sewerage network, rainwater drainage network and roads, all of which are part of the project and will complete in April 2013.

This part of the project comprises the establishment of a sewerage network at a length of 24km, with diameters varying between 150-600mm, a rainwater drainage network at a length of 19km with diameters varying between 150-800mm, and 8 pumping stations, in addition to replacing the old network with a new network at a length of 10km. Work also includes implementing a new road network at a length of 13km.

The treatment Plant is worth BD6.4m, while the sewerage and rainwater networks and the roads being implemented are worth BD8m; with 90% completion. It serves 500 industrial and service locations in Blocks 633 & 634.
