Works Ministry completes work on phase 1 of Zaid Bin Omaira Revamp Project

The Ministry of Works has recently completed phase 1 of BD872,642 Zaid Bin Omaira Revamp Project; extending from Buri Roundabout on Wali Al Ahad Avenue to Dimistan at a length of 920m.

According to the Assistant Undersecretary for Roads Huda Fakhro, the Ministry has revamped this part of the road by transforming it into a double 2 lane road on each direction, with a central reservation, side pavements and a service passageway, one of which is 200m long, is parallel to Zaid Bin Omaira Avenue and has parking spaces.

The other 200m long road serves Suq Waqif and has pavements and parking spaces.

"The Ministry has also recently revamped Road 3841, by transforming it into a double 2 lane road on each direction; linking Zaid Bin Omaira Avenue to Roundabout 18 in Hamad Town, and from there to Sh. Khalifa bin Salman Highway," said Fakhro.

In 2010, the Ministry completed phases 3 and 4 of Zaid Bin Omaira Avenue Revamp Project; extending from Zaid Bin Omaira Avenue Interchange with Avenue 2 to its interchange with Avenue 36 at a length of 3288m.

Fakhro explained that the project aims to enhance traffic safety for road users by decreasing the number of direct intersections overlooking the road, which is a major cause for fatal road accidents.

The project also aims to increase the capacity of this arterial road and therefore serve residents in the Western Area; a part of the Northern Governorate.

The project is considered a vital project due to the fact that Zaid Bin Omaira Avenue is the main access to a large number of western villages; beginning with Dimistan and ending with Dar Kulaib.

The Ministry of Works continues to look into ways of revamping roads in this area in coordination with Urban Planning Affairs at the Ministry of Municipalities and Urban Planning Affairs.
