Ministry of Works launches the improvement of Shaikh Duaij Avenue / Palace Avenue junction

The Ministry of Works has launched the improvement of Shaikh Duaij Avenue / Palace Avenue junction last Saturday, 2 months ahead than scheduled.
The project consisted of replacing the currently operating roundabout to a traffic signal, and increasing the number of lanes at the approaches to the junction. It also contains aspects to increase the traffic safety levels in this busy urban area.
The junction witnesses severe traffic congestions generated by the heavily populated and heavily commercialized area. The function of the two avenues allowing through traffic also contributes to the traffic congestions. The junction is the last in a series of projects that replaced roundabouts to traffic signals as an attempt to improve traffic circulation and increase traffic capacity.
The project was eventually awarded to Atlas Transport Contracting for a value of BD771.427 The contract commencement date was 17 June 2012.
