  • PRESS RELEASE

Major companies and household names from the UAE film and entertainment world this week lined up alongside their television counterparts for one of the biggest MIPCOMs ever. MIPCOM 2012 cemented a gathering of all sectors of the entertainment business and showed curiosity for developing regional and international deals.

The market also welcomed a considerable line-up of keynotes, speakers and stars from the region.

Confirming the international attraction of MIPCOM, there were significant increases in the number of visitors attending from the Middle East in comparison with last year's MIPCOM, with UAE as leading presence from the region (130 participants), followed by Lebanon (65), Qatar and Egypt (30) and other countries.

In addition, all major studios exhibited and represented the regional entertainment industry, including a debut appearance from Dubai Media Incorporated, MBC Group, Fujairah Creative City and twofour54 with a dedicated stand.

Commenting on the statistics, MIPCOM's Bassil Hajjar said, "This increasing presence really shows how the television business is open to extraordinary international opportunities for UAE companies and we are glad we can affirm that this year's MIPCOM could enjoy new players from the region".

With more than 12,000 delegates participating from 104 countries, including 4,400 buyers, negotiated and networked their way throughout the event. Of those buyers, over 500 were making dedicated VOD acquisitions. And throughout the show, conference speaker after speaker stressed that the key to success in the crowded distribution market is to concentrate on high-quality, original programming and great storytelling.

MIPCOM event is organized by Reed MIDEM that is the organizer of MIPTV as well, the world platform for the TV industry. Next year Reed Midem will celebrate MIPTV's 50th Anniversary (which will run from 8-11 April 2013) together with the Golden Jubilee of the TV industry.
