Mobile phone subscribers in UAE reach 12.9 million

According to figures by the UAE Telecoms Regulatory Authority (TRA), more than 88,000 new users joined the country's mobile phone market in August taking the total number of subscribers to a record high of around 12.9 million, Emirates 24-7 has reported. With this, the UAE maintained its position as having one of the world's highest mobile phone penetration rates, standing at 159% at the end of August this year. The report showed around 913,000 new service users joined Etisalat and Du during the month, boosting the total number of subscribers to mobile phones, fixed landlines, and internet to an all-time high of nearly 15.78 million at the end of the month.
