Foreword
The Middle East has brought a new definition to what can be classed as iconic, an accolade few projects can aspire to be called. Our report on Modern iconic landmarks in the Middle East lists the seven we think today are iconic. To get on that list it had to be either finished or close to completion, be of major significance to the region, highly recognisable, plus of course, it had to have that wow factor. That list is dwarfed by our future iconic landmarks; if only half are completed the Middle East will have some truly amazing buildings. We also look at the rise of man-made islands and how they are changing the region's coastline and then Dubai in isolation, a city so full of iconic projects. Finally, don't forget you can vote for your modern iconic landmark of the Middle East in our interactive poll.
