Modon begins planning and development for first industrial city for women in Saudi Arabia

Modon has initiated works for planning and development of the first industrial city targeting the female element in the Kingdom by captivating on women's investments and providing employment opportunities in the multiple industrial areas to attract women workers.

This comes after the approval of the Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs Prince Dr. Mansour bin Miteb bin Abdulaziz, who adopted the planned allocation of an industrial city for women in Hofuf, governorate of Al-Ahsa, implementing the decision of the Council of Ministers approving the rules for determining urban boundaries of the Kingdom cities, allocation of land and areas within the city limits and for establishing industrial projects for women workers. The industrial city for women in the city of Hofuf, located near Al-Ahsa airport is the first of its kind in the Kingdom.

Modon seeks to allocate land for industrial development for the growth of all sites allocated for the establishment of industrial cities and constituted for investors in collaboration with a number of government agencies and the private sector.

For his part, Acting Director General of Saudi Industrial Property Authority Eng. Saleh Al-Rasheed confirmed that Modon is currently working on establishing a second industrial city specializing for women, pointing out that the work was underway for a number of industrial lands in various parts of the Kingdom in coordination with the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs for the allocation of the necessary lands.

In this context, Modon explained that Saudi women have the ability to access the midst of many areas of industrial action, especially after the development of industrial cities for women workers, indicating that women can demonstrate their efficiency in many light and clean industrial sectors those suit their interests and industrial trends.

The industrial cities now comprise industrial factories owned by women and other factories with some production lines set aside for women.

It is worth mentioning that the Modon have been initiated (Industrial Innovation Award) and is still receiving ideas from the participants to win prizes worth one million riyals through the website www.modon.gov.sa. The award targets everyone, especially young men and women workers, with belief of the importance of the role played by women in the business sector and their ability to manage, either industrial or other sectors.

Meanwhile, the Saudi Industrial Property Authority (Modon) was established in 2001. Modon is responsible for the development of integrated service lands, where Modon has established industrial cities in various regions of the Kingdom and currently oversees 29 existing or underdevelopment cities which include: Riyadh (1st, 2nd & 3rd), Jeddah (1st, 2nd & 3rd), Dammam (1st., 2nd & 3rd), Makkah, Qassim 1st. , Al-Ahsa, Al-Madinah, Al-Kharj, Sudair, Ha'il, Tabuk, Ar'ar, Al-Jouf, Assir, Jazan, Najran, Al-Baha, Qassim 2nd,Taif, Al-Zulfi, Shaqraa and Hafr Al-Batin. There are cities under planning and designing stages as well, which include Salwa, Dhuba, Al-Baha 2nd, Military industries and Jeddah 4th. It is targeted that during the coming five years, the number of industrial cities shall reach 40 industrial cities with developed industrial lands of not less than 160 million square meters.
