National Committee for unification of addressing system reviews final edition of decree issued by Ministerial Council

During a workshop convened in Dubai, the National Committee for the unification of the addressing system in the United Arab Emirate discussed and reviewed the draft of the decree was issued by the Ministerial Council about the unification of the addressing system in the country.

The workshop was headed by H.E. Dr. Abdulla Ghareeb Al Baloushi, the Managing Director of the Land & Property Management Sector in the Department of Municipal Affairs in Abu Dhabi (DMA), and was attended by representatives of the following members in the committee; ministry of environment and water, ministry of cabinet affairs, ministry of interior, DMA, Urban Planning Council - Abu Dhabi, Dubai Municipality, Department of Transport Abu Dhabi, Road and Transport Authority - Dubai, Ras Al Khaima Municipality, Al Fujairah Municipality, Department of Ajman Municipality and Planning, Sharjah Town Planning and Survey Department, Emirates Post, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and Bayanat Company.

The workshop started its activities by a presentation about the national committee for the unification of the addressing system and the tasks assigned, and reviewed the draft decree issued by the ministerial council related to the unification of the addressing system in the UAE and discussed the feedback and remarks made by committee members before producing the final edition of the concerned decree.

H.E. Dr. Abdullah Ghareeb Al Baloushi, the Managing Director of the Land & Property Management Sector in the Department of Municipal Affairs, said that the unification process of the addressing system in the UAE comes in line with the government direction to make the cities in the country an ideal place to live and work, adding that a unified addressing system makes it easier to locate people destinations and enable the emergency sector and other business sectors to provide fast and more effective services.

Economically, Dr. Al Baloushi said that the unified addressing system will benefit the local economy by improving traffic flow in busy residential and commercial areas and will enable tourists to travel around the country and reach their destinations easily and smoothly.

The specified tasks of the National Committee for the unification of the addressing system which was formed by a decree issued by the Ministry of Environment and Water are to propose a federal law and regulations for the addressing system and signboards across the country, and supervise the implementation of the system. The committee will be responsible for evaluating similar systems based on best international practices and regulations and come up with suggestions to meet the needs of all groups and sections of the UAE society.

The committee shall prepare a manual of standards and general specifications for the unified addressing and instructional board system to make it an essential reference book for local governments in the country. It will also be responsible for reviewing and approving of any future projects related to the addressing system and instructional boards.

There are many advantages to having a unified address and postal service system as this project will contribute a great deal to the development process of all emirates, as it will facilitate the mobility of residents and citizens of the country and also help in attracting investors and tourists.
