National Technology Enterprises, Kuwait Scientific Research Institute, Heliocentris inaugurate GCC's Clean Power Site

Heliocentris, the experts for energy efficiency and clean energy solutions, a portfolio company of National Technology Enterprises Company (NTEC), together with the Kuwait Scientific Research Institute (KISR) have announced the first-of-its-kind 100% self-sufficient energy solutions site at this power levels based purely on renewable energy sources.

This Clean Power Site was inaugurated on 22 October 2012 at Kuwait Scientific Research Institute (KISR).

This ground-breaking project was built by Heliocentris in partnership with KISR, using the latest green technology and energy management systems. The company will also provide the core technologies and technical know-how for the Clean Power Site going forward.

Joint programmes established between Heliocentris and KISR will ensure the continuity and sustainability of the collaboration, transferring knowledge of green technologies into the region.

Dr Naji Mohamed Al-Mutairi, Director General of KISR, said, "KISR has grown over the years to become a unique organization, and that we are the first in the region to implement a Clean Power Site only further emphasizes our forward-thinking capabilities. Our plans for the future include creating specialized centres of excellence, and, based on our strong knowledge and research into fuel sources, environment and urban development, this energy solution from Heliocentris and NTEC is a positive step towards the KISR becoming a sustainable example for the Middle East."

Anas Meerza, The General Manager of NTEC, said, "The inauguration of the GCC's first Clean Power Site is a milestone effort that NTEC is proud to be part of. This comes in line with our clear strategy and goals mandated by the Kuwait Council of Ministers, to explore and deliver leading technology to the country's major stakeholders. Our participation in this project comes from a desire to initiate ground-breaking technologies in Kuwait and the region. This, the first self-sufficient energy solution, is a breakthrough that we hope more countries in the Middle East will adopt as we move towards sustainability."

Ayad Abul-Ella, CEO of Heliocentris AG, said, "The inauguration of this clean power site constitutes the next milestone on Heliocentris' way from energy efficiency to commercial grade zero emission solutions. The combination of Wind Turbine, Solar Modules, on site hydrogen generation, Fuel Cell Systems and deep cycle batteries into one integrated industrial grade solution, designed by Heliocentris' engineers and based on Heliocentris' leading energy management system, ensures a 100% self-sufficient off-grid power supply at real-life conditions. We are very pleased to herewith be ready to invite leading Information and Communication Companies as well as Oil and Gas Entities, to see and learn with us more about the capabilities of such clean power technology."

The Industrial Grade Clean Power Site at KISR, representing the latest in German technology, will establish a hub for applied research, and will be a focal point for a variety of industrial customers from across the GCC region.

Inaugurating this initial solution is part of Kuwait's strategy to become a leader in Green and Environmentally-friendly practices. The renewable energy sources will have a power output of up to 16 kilowatts of electricity. A battery bank and a fuel cell system provide backup power; the required hydrogen can be generated on site with an electrolyser utilizing excess renewable power from the primary sources. The diesel generator only runs as an additional backup in case of unfavorable weather conditions.

KISR's Clean Power Site will reduce carbon emissions by up to several hundred tonnes per year compared to conventional solutions based on fossil energy sources.

This project is managed by the Heliocentris branch office located in Silicon Oasis, Dubai, which has started operations end of 2011 with local staff including Sales, Solution Engineering and Project Management. This underlines the importance of the Middle East Africa region as a growth driver and is at the same time a further sign of Heliocentris' strong commitment to this region. Heliocentris and NTEC and has a Joint Venter agreement and in the process of launching Heliocentris Kuwait.
