- PRESS RELEASE
Nawras will be taking part in Earth Hour 2013 for the fourth consecutive year and will be switching off electrical items wherever possible, including lighting, for one hour in support of the World Wildlife Fund's (WWF) global initiative to promote lasting actions for sustainable living.
As a caring member of the community, this year Nawras is going one step further than before by encouraging more than 1000 of its dealers across the country to join the initiative to conserve energy and use power responsibly.
Spreading awareness and encouraging greater participation in Earth Hour is one way to help protect the beautiful landscape in the Sultanate.
Mutassim Hamood Al-Zadjali, Nawras Head of CSR & Events, said, "In line with Earth Hour's motto of 'I Will If You Will', we are encouraging people to take part by joining Nawras in switching off all unnecessary electrical items. We firmly believe that we can all make a difference if we work together and this initiative helps to show the great impact that can be achieved when leading by example. As a company, we will continue to ensure our operations are cost effective and as environmentally friendly as possible while providing a great customer experience."
Haitham Mubark Al Maqbali, owner of Al Taif Phones, said, "As an official Nawras dealer, we are proud to join Nawras and be part of this global movement to raise awareness of environmental protection and the need to reduce waste. Our joint efforts and participation reflect our support for a global initiative that aims to make small changes that become part of a daily routine. By switching off unused electrical outlets, everyone can make a difference as millions of people across the world do the same thing. We hope to inspire our customers and local communities to join us too."
Earth Hour's 2013 YouTube campaign entitled 'I Will If You Will' has attracted nearly six million views and received hundreds of thousands of commitments from individuals, businesses, organisations and governments, all taking action for the planet far beyond the hour.
Nawras is a member of the Environment Society of Oman (ESO) and has implemented a number of green initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint including the option for customers to receive e-bills and recharge electronically. The new Nawras flagship store uses energy efficient lighting to provide a vibrant and engaging environment while maintaining the company's on-going commitment to corporate social responsibility.
