NBAD eyes Malaysian Islamic licence

The UAE's second-largest lender by assets, National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) has announced plans to seek an Islamic banking licence in Malaysia to meet demand for Shari'ah-compliant financing, Bloomberg has reported. The company wants to expand after starting non-Islamic commercial banking operations in Southeast Asia's third-largest economy in July, said Leong See Meng, CEO of National Bank of Abu Dhabi Malaysia Bhd. "There are opportunities across the board," said Leong.
