Etihad forges ties with Malaysian Airlines
- Etihad Airways is set to forge closer links with Malaysia Airlines, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding which will potentially see the two national airlines add destinations to their international networks and offer frequent flyer benefits offered to their respective customers. The proposed agreement paves the way for closer cooperation between the airlines on a range of joint initiatives which are likely to include a future code-share agreement as well as collaboration on frequent flyer programmes, ground handling, customer support, cargo and airport lounge access.

Qatar Airways to fly to Calicut
- Qatar Airways plans to operate scheduled flights to the southwest Indian coastal city of Kozhikode, the airline's third gateway in the state of Kerala, beginning June 15. Formerly known as Calicut, the city is Kerala's third largest with a population of almost 500,000 people. Qatar Airways will operate daily non-stop services between Doha and Kozhikode using an Airbus A320 aircraft. The airline already serves Cochin and Trivandrum in Kerala and a further six cities across India.

ETA Star buys 7 jets from Embraer
- Dubai-based ETA Star Group has agreed to buy seven commercial jets from Brazil-based aircraft maker Empresa Brasileira de Aeronautica for $220.5m, reported Bloomberg. ETA Star has options to buy three more of the Embraer 170 models and five purchase rights for any E-Jet model. The order could be worth up to $472.5m if all options and purchase rights are exercised.

Prestige Jet to operate 1st Embraer Lineage 1000
- Abu Dhabi-based Prestige Jet is to operate the world's first Embraer Lineage 1000 aircraft, the largest designated business jet aside from the Boeing Business Jet and Airbus Corporate Jet, according to a statement. The aircraft, which is being managed by Prestige Jet on behalf of owner Aamer Abdul Jalil Al Fahim, is currently being fitted out in the US and will be ready to enter operations next November.

Etihad trails Emirates in web survey
- Survey respondents favour Emirates over Etihad in an AME Info survey of UAE brand websites. Of the 93% of respondents who had visited the Dubai-based airline's website, 93.1% said that it met their expectations of an international brand in the digital environment. Fewer of those polled, 47%, had visited the Etihad website, but it was also highly rated, with 76% saying that it met their expectations of a global brand, among those that had logged on.

Air Arabia flies to new Bangalore airport
- Air Arabia, the largest low-cost carrier in the Mena region, announced today that it will begin flying to Bengaluru International Airport, Bangalore's new airport, beginning on May 22, 2008. The new airport is located east of the Bangalore-Hyderabad National Highway. A user development fee charged by the airport authority of Dhs93 will be collected at Bangalore Airport in cash from all outbound passengers. Beginning July 1, this fee will be included as part of Air Arabia's fare.

Etihad unveils new business class lounge
- Etihad Airways has opened a new dedicated business class lounge at its Abu Dhabi airport home base that will offer its business class customers state-of-the-art relaxation and entertainment facilities in addition to around-the-clock dining, the carrier said in a statement. The new Terminal 1 business class lounge follows the opening in January of a separate new lounge dedicated to first class customers. More than three times the size of Etihad's previous premium lounge, the business and first class lounges can now cater for up to 200 customers at any one time.

Emirates renews tie up with NAS
- Emirates Airlines is renewing its ground handling agreement with National Aviation Services at the Kuwait International Airport for another five years. NAS will continue to provide Emirates with ground support, passenger services, engineering and airport lounges.
