  • Sama resumes flights to Beirut

  • Saudi-based low cost carrier Sama Airlines has announced that will resume its international flights between the kingdom and Lebanon on Wednesday 21 May 2008, with 6 flights per week.The airline will operate three flights to Beirut from Jeddah (Sunday, Monday, and Friday) and three from Riyadh (Sunday, Wednesday, Friday) at fares starting from 525 SR.

  • Kuwait Airways to sell stake in Alafco

  • State-owned Kuwait Airways Corp plans to sell its 11.4% stake in aircraft lessor Aviation Lease and Finance Co (Alafco) after its privatisation programme, reported Al Watan newspaper. The airline is to sell its stake for at least 450 fils per share, above Monday's closing price of 260 fils.

  • Emirates launches rewards program

  • Emirates has launched Business Rewards, a new rewards programme for small and medium enterprises that gives them the opportunity to benefit from employee flights. Each time a registered employee books an Emirates flight through Business Rewards, the business earns Business Rewards Miles while the individual traveller continues to earn Miles from Skywards, Emirates' frequent flyer programme. The company can then redeem accumulated Business Rewards Miles against future flights.

  • Prestige to buy five Gulfstream G650s

  • Abu Dhabi-based Prestige Jet announced yesterday that it will add five Gulfstream G650 aircraft to its fleet, representing the largest order in the Middle East for the aircraft. The G650, which can carry between 15-18 passengers, is capable of flying 7,000 nautical miles at Mach 0.85 or 5,000 nautical miles at Mach 0.90. Prestige Jet will receive the first G650 in 2012, subject to Gulfstream's aircraft development schedule.

  • Free wi-fi at Abu Dhabi airport

  • Abu Dhabi International Airport will offer free wi-fi access to the internet for passengers for the first time from 1 June 2008, the operator of the airport said. Currently 152 airports around the world offer wi-fi services for free and over 52% of these airports are based in the US.

  • XOJet expects $500m Abu Dhabi investment

  • US-based XOJet, a private aviation company, said it has arranged $2.5bn of financing largely from investors in the Middle East to expand its fleet, reported Reuters. XOJet said it expects to receive about $900m in financing immediately, including $500m from Tasameem, an Abu Dhabi Investment Authority real estate arm, and $400m from Export Development Canada to fund the purchase of Challenger jets made by Bombardier.

  • Delta ups Dubai-Atlanta route

  • Delta Air Lines is increasing the frequency of its non-stop service from Dubai to Atlanta from six times weekly to a daily service from October 7, 2008. The airline is experiencing passenger and cargo load factors greater than 80% on the route, the company said.

  • Oman Air reinstates Beirut flights

  • Oman Air has now resumed commercial flights to the Lebanese Rafik Hariri International Airport. Air Arabia said yesterday that it too had recommenced flights.
