Boeing has announced that it has received orders from two Algerian airlines for its 737-800 jets. The announced was made today at the Dubai Airshow, which has seen few orders from Middle East carriers. Air Algerie ordered seven of the planes, which brings its 737 fleet to 22. The airline's CEO, Abdelwahid Bouabdallah, said the new 737-800s will help reduce operating and maintenance costs. The other order was placed by Tassili Airlines, which signed a deal for four of the jets. The deal is Boeing's first with Tassili, which is a subsidiary of Algerian-government-owned Sonatrach Petroleum. The carrier said it will use the planes to transport employees and cargo between large Algerian cities and Sonatrach work sites.
Brazilian plane maker Embraer, the world's largest maker of regional jets, said today it has signed a deal to sell five Embraer 175 aircraft to Oman Air. The deal, which is valued at $177.5m, is the manufacturer's first with a Gulf airline. Oman Air has also taken options for five more Embraer 175, potentially doubling the value of the deal, Embraer said. First delivery of the 72-seat aircraft is scheduled for the first quarter of 2011.
With passenger traffic at the Dubai International Airport on track to pass 40 million this year, boosting capacity is a key driver behind the development of a new airport in the emirate, but it is not the only factor behind the project, Dubai aviation officials say.

Abu Dhabi Airports Co (Adac) has said that it will install the latest generation Air Traffic Control systems from French group Thales, as part of $6.8bn development project to modernise facilities at the capital's International Airport. The new system will enable controllers to share data on aircraft positions and to operate seamless handovers between territories, Adac said.

The portable XL Go provides advanced image handling and data transfer capabilities, which the carrier say will raise productivity and efficiency while complying with global aviation safety regulations.
Abu Dhabi government-owned Mubadala Development has announced the signing of a strategic framework agreement with Boeing International Corp. The agreement will see cooperation in high-tech activities, including composite manufacturing, engineering, research and development, commercial maintenance, repair and overhaul, military maintenance and sustainment, pilot training and people development.

Airbus on Monday said that it expects to match the number of planes it delivered last year in 2009. Speaking at the Dubai Airshow, the company's President and CEO Tom Ender said that the group is on track to repeat the 2008 delivery record of 483 planes in 2009, and maybe even exceed it.
Etihad Airways has forecast that its revenues for this year will be about $3bn and that it will post its first-ever profit in 2011, its CEO said today at the Dubai Airshow. James Hogan said the Abu Dhabi-based airline was forced to delay its projected target for profitability by a year due to 'yield pressure' from the global financial downturn and the swine flu crisis.

US-based Goodrich's Aircraft Wheels & Brakes business has been selected by Flydubai to supply wheels and carbon brakes for their 54 Boeing Next-Generation 737-800 aircraft, the group has announced, in a deal expected to generate up to $22m in revenue over the life of the contract, including aftermarket support. Aircraft deliveries with the wheel and brake equipment are expected to begin in March 2010 and continue through 2013.

Yemenia Airlines announced today that it has signed a memorandum of understanding to acquire ten Airbus A320 family aircraft. The deal, which requires approval of the board of the airline, is worth about $700m, said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer.
Low-cost carrier Flydubai has announced two aircraft financing deals worth $160m on the second day of the 2009 Dubai Airshow. The financing covers the first two aircraft that the airline received in May and ensures that all six aircraft the carrier has received this year are fully funded.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman of Emirates Airline has said the carrier may be ready to launch an initial public offering in two to three years, Bloomberg has reported. 'Because the market is going towards growth, within two to three years from now would be excellent,' he said, adding that any decision on the matter would rest with the government. In the six months to September, the group's sales fell 13.5% on lower passenger and cargo yields, forcing cost cuts in order to increase earnings.

Adel Ali, CEO of the Sharjah-based low-cost carrier, has said he expects the airline to add six new planes next year, Bloomberg has reported. 'In 2010 we are penciling to get six planes between the three hubs and then we are talking to manufacturers to have leased options,' he said. The carrier yesterday announced a 33% drop in Q3 profits, bucking analyst expectations of a larger drop.

The aircraft leasing and financial business arm of Dubai Aerospace Enterprise, DAE Capital, has signed an agreement with International Aero Engines, a consortium led by Rolls-Royce and Pratt & Whitney, to buy v2500 Selectone engines to power 20 new A320 Airbus aircraft. According to the $340m agreement, delivery of the engines would start in 2011, the firm said in a statement. The 20 aircraft are part of a 70-aircraft order the leasing company announced in July 2008.

Emirates Airline has signed a letter of intent with US-based Goodrich Corporation for the group to become the exclusive provider of evacuation system maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services for the airline's fleet of 58 Airbus A380 aircraft. A 12-year agreement is expected to be signed shortly. The work will be performed by Goodrich's MRO campus in Dubai.
