  • Qatar to seek compensation from Boeing

  • Qatar Airways plans to seek compensation from Boeing for delays in delivering its 787 Dreamliner aircraft, reported our sister company Meed. Qatar bought 30 of the planes as part of a $13.5bn order in 2007, but the US manufacturer has twice delayed production. The airline may purchase Airbus A380s to cover the shortfall.

  • Etihad signs lease deal for aircraft

  • Etihad Airways has signed a contract with New York-based CIT Aerospace for the lease of two new Airbus A320-200 aircraft. The two A320-200s are scheduled for delivery to the Abu Dhabi-based airline by the end of 2008. The aircraft will be powered by IAE V2527-A5 engines.

  • Luanda-Dubai route to open

  • Angola's state-owned flag carrier TAAG is launching service from the country's capital, Luanda, to Dubai on Monday. The twice-weekly service will be offered on Mondays and Fridays. TAAG will fly with a Boeing 777 with the capacity for 420 passengers.

  • Flights to Beirut from Dubai cancelled

  • Three flights, outbound and inbound, from Dubai to Beirut were cancelled on Wednesday due to the labour union protest in the Lebanese capital, reported Gulf News. Supporters of Lebanon's Hezbollah-led opposition blocked main roads in Beirut with burning barricades, paralysing the city and deepening a political conflict.

  • Etihad plans 12 new destinations

  • Etihad Airways will add 12 destinations to its network in the coming months, include major cities in China, India and former Soviet Union states, reported Gulf News. Dr Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saif Al Nahyan, Etihad chairman, added the four-year-old airline will break-even by 2010. The airline last year flew 4.6 million passengers and aims to fly 6.3 million this year.

  • Indian to resume Dubai-Goa route

  • State-ownded Indian Airline plans to start two direct flights a week from Dubai to Goa within a week. The new service will fly every Thursday and Saturday. On March 28, Indian stopped its direct flights to Goa from Sharjah citing low traffic.

  • Emirates to fly to Durban

  • Emirates Airlines will make daily direct flights from Dubai to Durban from December. The carrier's decision follows its successful commencement of operations in Cape Town earlier this year. It said Durban's advantageous location made it a natural hub for trade with the Indian Ocean and Asian Pacific countries, boosting its status as Africa's largest port and the world's ninth-busiest.

  • Kayala relaunches Jeddah-Dubai route

  • The first privately operated scheduled airline service in Saudi Arabia, Kayala Airlines, is relaunching its Jeddah-Dubai route, which will operate 5 times a week. The airline, which is also being rebranded with a new look and feel, currently operates five nonstop flights a week between Dubai-Riyadh, five weekly between Dubai-Jeddah and 12 per week between Jeddah-Riyadh.
