  • United to fly Dubai to DC nonstop

  • United Airlines plans to start daily nonstop passenger and cargo flights between Dubai and Washington, DC beginning October 26, reported Bloomberg. The flights to Dubai International Airport from Dulles International Airport will take 13 hours.

  • Delays for A380 in UAE

  • The UAE's two leading national carriers Emirates and Etihad have both confirmed that they have received letters from European planemaker Airbus warning them of possible delays in deliveries of the A380, the world's largest passenger aircraft. Emirates has ordered 58 of the $300m aircraft; Etihad has ordered four.

  • Iraq orders 30 Boeings

  • The Iraqi government has placed an order for 30 Boeing 737-800, with contracted options for a further 10. The contract is valued at $2.2n, and had previously been put down on Boeing's books as for an 'unidentified customer'. The Iraqi government is also finalising an order for 10 737 Dreamliners, allowing the national carrier to provide long range commercial services.

  • Ajman gears up for int'l airport

  • The Ajman government has revealed its masterplan for an international airport, to be built in Al-Manama area of Ajman, according to news reports. The airport will be on a 60 million square feet land area eyeing at least one million passengers per year and handling a minimum of 400,000 tons of cargo.

  • New jets for Empire Aviation

  • After receiving its Air Operators Certificate, Empire Aviation Group has just taken delivery of two new jets, an Embraer Legacy 600 super mid-size business jet, and a Hawker 850XP jet, ready to offer to the regional charter market. It is also expecting a Gulfstream GIII at the end of May.

  • Boeing denies 787 delay rumours

  • Boeing has denied a report in the German press of further delays in the roll out of the 787 Dreamliner model ordered by some regional airlines. The company has issued a statement stating that customers only face the 20-month delay in delivery announced in April.

  • Filipinos seek Middle East seats

  • Due to a lack of airline seats from the Philippines to the Middle East, fares have shot up , creating a black market for reservations as carriers charge more, Gulf News has reported. The Federated Association of Manpower Exporters said that a shortage of direct flights, which carry an average of 1,000 workers daily, had sent recruitment agencies into 'frenzy'.

  • Passengers slowdown in March

  • According to figures released by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Middle East airlines recorded a 15.4% increase in March passenger numbers, but the growth was slower compared with the corresponding period in 2007, reported Gulf News. The report said, Middle East rate of growth for March was 5% lower than the same month last year.
