  • Sama flies to Sharm El-Sheikh

  • Sama Airlines has commenced services to Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt. Thee flights are scheduled every Wednesday and Friday from Riyadh, and every Saturday, Tuesday, and Thursday from Jeddah. Sama flies to 10 international destinations, including Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Amman, Damascus, Latakia, Aleppo, Beirut, Alexandria, Asiut and Sharm el Sheikh.

  • Etihad passes IATA safety audit

  • Etihad has received its clean bill of safety from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) after it has been examined in detail for safety procedures and processes. The audits are mandatory for all IATA member airlines and require meeting 926 separate standards in areas including organisation and management, flight, cabin, ground and cargo operations, maintenance, flight dispatch and security.

  • Emirates adds 3 flights to Cairo

  • Emirates Airline in Egypt said it has added three flights to Dubai for the month of June. The flights, will run on the 25th, 29th, and 30th and will depart Dubai at 0800hrs and arrive in Cairo at 1050hrs. On the same days, from Cairo, the flight leaves on the same days at 1205hrs and arrive in Dubai at 1640hrs.

  • Xjet sets up at Dubai World Central

  • Private aviation service provider XJet World has inked a deal with Dubai World Central Aviation City to set up a fixed base operations facility for business and private aircraft, according to news reports. Xjet has put in an initial investment of $35m to set up the facility.

  • Falcon to buy 23 jets, helicopters

  • Falcon Aviation Services has signed a lease finance facility of Dhs875m with Abu Dhabi National Leasing to acquire 23 additional corporate jets and helicopters. The acquisition will include Embraer Legacy 600, Gulfstream G450, Embraer Lineage 1000, Embraer Phenom 300, and GROB SPn while the helicopter orders include Agusta A109, and Eurocopter EC130.

  • AHS - Menzies wins QAIA ground handling

  • AHS - Menzies Aviation has won a 7-year contract to operate as the second Ground Handling Agent Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA). The contract was awared by Airport International Group, the international consortium responsible for developing and operating QAIA. AHS - Menzies will provide passenger, ramp, and cargo handling services to airlines at QAIA.

  • Wataniya appoints new executive staff

  • Kuwait's Wataniya Airways has announced the appointment of two new executive staff. Paul Sies was appointed as Chief Commercial Officer. and Chandrasekhar Nene has joined as Chief Information Officer. Sies, who has nearly two decades in the airline industry. moves to Kuwait from Belgium where he was Chief Commercial Officer for Center Parcs Europe. Nene brings 30 years of expertise in information technology. His aviation experience includes senior roles at Jet Airways, Kenya Airways, and most recently Kingfisher Airlines in India.

  • Volunteers needed to test new terminal

  • Dubai Airports is looking for about 4,000 members of the public to participate in operational readiness trials this summer to test Dubai International Airport's new Terminal 3, which is dedicated to Emirates Airline, reported Khaleej Times. Volunteers will be given a script describing their role as a passenger in the trials, which are aimed at ensuring a smooth transfer to the new terminal. Those who want to participate in the trials can register at www.efast.ae/trials.
