  • Indian to resume Dubai-Goa route

  • State-ownded Indian Airline plans to start two direct flights a week from Dubai to Goa within a week. The new service will fly every Thursday and Saturday. On March 28, Indian stopped its direct flights to Goa from Sharjah citing low traffic.

  • Emirates to fly to Durban

  • Emirates Airlines will make daily direct flights from Dubai to Durban from December. The carrier's decision follows its successful commencement of operations in Cape Town earlier this year. It said Durban's advantageous location made it a natural hub for trade with the Indian Ocean and Asian Pacific countries, boosting its status as Africa's largest port and the world's ninth-busiest.

  • Kayala relaunches Jeddah-Dubai route

  • The first privately operated scheduled airline service in Saudi Arabia, Kayala Airlines, is relaunching its Jeddah-Dubai route, which will operate 5 times a week. The airline, which is also being rebranded with a new look and feel, currently operates five nonstop flights a week between Dubai-Riyadh, five weekly between Dubai-Jeddah and 12 per week between Jeddah-Riyadh.

  • Etihad set to place $20bn aircraft order

  • Etihad Airways is set to order up to 100 planes worth about $20bn, in what would be the largest aircraft order this year, reported the UK's Daily Telegraph. James Hogan, CEO of the Abu Dhabi-based carrier, said he was in advanced talks with Airbus and Boeing and hopes to have a deal tied up within the next few months. The airline is looking to order narrow-bodied, wide-bodied and very large aircraft, including A380s or B747-8s.

  • United to fly Dubai to DC nonstop

  • United Airlines plans to start daily nonstop passenger and cargo flights between Dubai and Washington, DC beginning October 26, reported Bloomberg. The flights to Dubai International Airport from Dulles International Airport will take 13 hours.

  • Delays for A380 in UAE

  • The UAE's two leading national carriers Emirates and Etihad have both confirmed that they have received letters from European planemaker Airbus warning them of possible delays in deliveries of the A380, the world's largest passenger aircraft. Emirates has ordered 58 of the $300m aircraft; Etihad has ordered four.

  • Iraq orders 30 Boeings

  • The Iraqi government has placed an order for 30 Boeing 737-800, with contracted options for a further 10. The contract is valued at $2.2n, and had previously been put down on Boeing's books as for an 'unidentified customer'. The Iraqi government is also finalising an order for 10 737 Dreamliners, allowing the national carrier to provide long range commercial services.

  • Ajman gears up for int'l airport

  • The Ajman government has revealed its masterplan for an international airport, to be built in Al-Manama area of Ajman, according to news reports. The airport will be on a 60 million square feet land area eyeing at least one million passengers per year and handling a minimum of 400,000 tons of cargo.
