Gulf Air forecasts $1bn loss
- Bahrain-based carrier Gulf Air has forecast a $1bn loss spread across two years according to a leaked internal memo, The National has reported. The airline will sustain losses of BD131.7m this year, followed by BD226.3m next year. The losses are expected to gradually subside over the next six years, down to BD22.6m in 2013. Gulf Air acknowledged the authenticity of the memo but played down its importance.

Air Arabia profit up by 39%
- Air Arabia has reported a net profit of Dhs160m for the first half of this year, 39% higher than the same period of the past year. The 2nd quarter of the year has made Dhs82m, already 14% higher than the past year's performance in the same period. The airline has served more than 1.6 million passengers during the first half of 2008, 33% higher than of the previous year's record.

Royal Jordanian posts JD3.1m loss
- Royal Jordanian has incurred net losses of around JD3.1m as against JD1.9m during the same period of last year. The airline however, posted 33% increase in operational revenues, registering JD315m this year as against JD236m in the same period the past year.

Etihad boosts India flights
- Etihad Airways has increased its flights to India, launching daily flights from Abu Dhabi to Chennai (Madras) and Kozhikode (Calicut). The airline has also secured flying rights to two more cities in India, Kolkata and Jaipur, following successful bi-lateral talks between the governments of the UAE and India.

Cathay plans daily on HK-Bahrain
- Cathy Pacific is planning to increase its flights between Hong Kong and Bahrain from October 1, Bahrain Tribune has reported. The new flight schedule will run a Bahrain-Dubai-Hong Kong route on a daily basis.

Emirates extends in-flight calls to Boeing
- Emirates has introduced Aero-Mobile's in-flight mobile phone services on one of its Boeing 777-300 planes, claiming this is a first for a Boeing aircraft. Passengers can make calls and send SMS messages via their phones during a flight. The plane operates several routes, including services to Europe and Australia. Ten of Emirates' Airbus fleet currently have the technology installed. Average passenger call length, according to Emirates, is 2.5 minutes.

Gulf Air online sales up 250%
- Gulf Air has recorded an increase of 250% in its online bookings compared to last year. This follows the roll out of a new booking engine in January which offers an online 'best fare' guarantee.

Jordan Aviation signs lease deal
- Jordan Aviation has signed an agreement with Safi Airways whereby the group will lease its B737-300 aircraft on an ACMI basis. The agreement begins this month and operates on a renewable contract. The aircraft will be based in Kabul and will fly routes between Afghanistan and the GCC.
