A380 update: Hamburg a buzz with Emirates Airbus A380
- Summer has arrived with a buzz in the waterfront city of Hamburg and it's not just the dragonflies skimming across the waterways or the motors' of the water taxis. Bands might be buzzing in the numerous festivals on the streets of this European maritime centre, but the biggest buzz right now is in the aviation sector. This will happen at 10am (midday UAE time) on Monday 28th when more than 400 VIPs, along with 40 Middle East media persons, will witness a historic moment with the handing over of the first Emirates Airbus A380. HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Emirates, will receive the first of its 58 ordered A380s at a special ceremony within the Airbus Hamburg facility, alongside the River Elba.

Maximus on $10m fleet overhaul
- Maximus Air Cargo announced it is undertaking a $10m overhaul of its Ilyushin fleet to extend its operating lifespan by seven years. The overhaul and upgrade programme is being undertaken with Aviazapchast in conjunction with the Ilyushin Design Bureau.

Jeddah inks deal for new terminal
- Saudi Arabia's General Authority for Civil Aviation has signed an agreement with Aéroports de Paris Company of France, which will provide design and engineering services for the first phase of King Abdul Aziz International Airport's (KAIA) new airport terminal in Jeddah, Arab News has reported. The new terminal, with 74 jet bridges is designed to receive 30 million passengers annually and would be ready by 2012.

Emirates launches eco campaign
- Emirates has announced a series of environmental initiatives on the eve of taking delivery of its first Airbus A380, to improve its operations worldwide. Named the Emvironment programme, it includes the adoption of a new environmental policy for the company, a global staff awareness campaign and internal goals to reduce energy consumption and waste, as well as increase recycling and training.

Dinosaur stalks Abu Dhabi airport
- A 23 metre, 4.5 tonne skeleton of an Apatosaurus (Brontosaurus) dinosaur will take pride of place in Abu Dhabi International Airport's Terminal One Arrivals hall for two and a half months, until it is auctioned off in October. Visitors to the airport will be able to see the skeleton, nicknamed Einstein, for free, without checking in or making a journey.

Nasair adds 3 international routes
- Nasair, the first budget carrier in Saudi Arabia, has announced today the addition of new international routes to Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan. The carrier said it will run an average of 4 to 6 weekly flights from Jeddah and Riyadh to Alexandria, Beirut, and Amman beginning July 23rd.

Bahrain Air launches Jeddah route
- Bahrain Air is launching service to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, its 10th destination in the region, beginning 26th July. The service will operate three times a week for the entire summer season, and will become 4 weekly flights starting in September.

Saudi airport to get new $137m terminal
- King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Jeddah is adding a new state-of-the-art terminal with 74 jet bridges to receive both foreign and Saudia planes, reported Arab News. Abdullah Ruhaimy, president of the General Authority for Civil Aviation, has signed a $137m with Aéroports de Paris Company of France to provide design and engineering services for the first phase of KAIA's development project. The new terminal is expected to receive 30 million passengers annually and will be ready by 2012.
