  • BA to move Dubai flights to Heathrow's Terminal 5

  • British Airways, which currently operates 21 flights per week from the UAE to London Heathrow, and BAA have agreed to move the third and final phase of British Airways' remaining long-haul flights out of the London airport's Terminal 4 and into Terminal 5 beginning Wednesday, October 22, 2008. The 14 flights a week from Dubai International Airport will move on this date. This is in addition to daily flights from Abu Dhabi International Airport, which will transfer across from Terminal 4 to Terminal 5 on September 17.

  • Abu Dhabi airport work completed

  • Abu Dhabi Airports Company said essential maintenance work was completed at Abu Dhabi International Airport at 07:00 am this morning (Tuesday), only four hours after it commenced. The airport was fully operational from this time. ADAC worked closely with all airlines involved to minimise any delays to scheduled services and return to full operations, according to a statement.

  • Air Arabia hits 10 million passenger mark

  • Air Arabia, the largest low-cost carrier in the Middle East, has announced that it has flown more than 10 million passengers since its launch in October 2003. The carrier passed the mark at the end of June 2008. In the first half of 2008, Air Arabia carried more than 1.6 million passengers, an increase of 33% compared to 1.2 million passengers in the corresponding period last year.

  • Royal Jordanian to fly to Kiev

  • Royal Jordanian will start operating regular nonstop flights between Amman and Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, effective August 17, 2008. RJ will operate its Embraer 195 aircraft between the two cities, departing from Amman Sundays and Wednesdays. The journey between Amman and Kiev lasts 3:30 hours.

  • Bahrain to get new private jet operator

  • Bahrain's Civil Aviation Affairs Ministry has approved the launch of a new private jet company, reported Gulf Daily News. Afaq Private Jets, a joint venture between Awali Real Estate Investment Co and unnamed strategic partners will operate in the private and business aviation sector.

  • Abu Dhabi airport closed for repairs

  • Abu Dhabi International Airport is closing for 12 hours today between 2.15am to 2.15pm due to maintenance work on the runway. A team has been assigned to re-asphalt a minor crack found on the side of the runway. A total of 90 flights will either be rescheduled or cancelled, according to Gulf News, and 80% of the affected passenger shave been contacted directly through travel agents, phone or SMS.

  • Abu Dhabi air traffic up by 38.6%

  • Abu Dhabi Airports Company has announced a 38.6% growth in passenger traffic at the Abu Dhabi International Airport for the first half of 2008. Cargo handled has increased by 15.8% at 172,762 tons, with aircraft movements up at 16.8%.

  • Emirates to scrap newspapers

  • Emirates Airlines has announced plans to scrap their in flight newspaper and magazine service on all flights, according to a Gulf News report. The move, designed to cut costs and enhance fuel efficiency, would remove approximately one tonne in weight from an A380 aircraft.
