Emirates profit up 62%
- Emirates Airline has reported a 62% rise in profit in the fiscal year of 2007/2008. Profits at the airline reached Dhs5bn ($1.4bn), the company said. Overall profit for Emirates Group rose 54.1%, representing a Dhs47bn contribution to Dubai’s economy, or almost a quarter of the emirate's GDP.

Emirates to buy more A380s, says Airbus
- Airbus CEO John Leahy said he expects Emirates Airlines to purchase more A380 aircraft, reported Gulf News. Emirates, currently the largest buyer of the supersize aircraft, has ordered 58 A380s and is scheduled to get the first of these jets in August. Leahy said he believes that Emirates will eventually buy more of the aircraft, but right now its biggest problem is 'where to park them'.

Abu Dhabi passenger numbers up 34%
- Figures released by the Abu Dhabi Airports Company for Q1 2008 show passenger numbers up 34% on the same period last year. Figures for the month of March show a 35% increase with 722,000 travellers passing through the international airport, compared to 535,000 in 2007. Taking these figures into account officials believe that the year-end total could exceed 9m passengers.

UP to shun Air India for Haj
- The Haj Committee of Uttar Pradesh in India has decided to exclusively use the services of Saudi Airlines to send Haj pilgrims to Jeddah, following complaints of poor service by staff of Air India, reported the Indian Express. Nearly 30,000 pilgrims undertake Haj pilgrimage every year from the state.

Kenya flights increased
- Kenya Airways will increase the frequency of its service between Dubai and Nairobi from 11 to 14 from July 1. The airline has announced the move following continued strong demand as political tensions have eased.

Jazeera to up Saudi flights
- Jazeera Airways CEO, Marwan Boodai, has said that Saudi Arabia will be one of the airline's top three growth destinations in the next five years. Hubbed between Dubai and Kuwait the ariline currently flies to 26 destinations. The expansion plans are in line with the Saudi Supreme Council of Tourism's initiative to increase tourist numbers to 13.1 million by 2020.

Austria firm on Mubadala JV
- Austria's Fischer Advanced Composite Company (FACC) is reportedly in talks with Abu Dhabi's Mubadala Development Company to establish a joint venture project, cited Gulf News. FACC is a producer of aircraft and aeronautic parts for customers like Boeing and Airbus. The company is eyeing the UAE to produce aircraft parts.

Jet Aviation inks deal with Elite Jets
- Dubai-based private jet operator Elite Jets and Jet Aviation, a Switzerland-based aviation services company, are teaming up to provide aircraft management and charter services in the Middle East. The scope of the agreement ranges from providing regional charter services to Jet Aviation customers in the region through Elite Jets, while Jet Aviation will provide line and unscheduled maintenance services to their fleet of business aircraft. Jet Aviation also will designate a member to the board of directors of Elite Jets and will appoint a new director of ground operation to be based in Dubai.
