Emirates to fly to Rome and Milan
- Emirates Airlines has announced that it will soon be adding flights to the Italian cities of Milan and Rome. Beginning July 1, Emirates' flights from Dubai to Milan and Rome will both be direct, nonstop and running seven days a week.

NAS gets to operate in Kuwait
- Airline ground handling company, National Aviation Services (NAS) has obtained its Maintenance Organization Approval from the Kuwait Directorate General of Civil Aviation, which covers aspects like facility requirements, personnel requirements, certifying staff, equipment and tools, safety and quality procedures.

Oman Air also to offer OnAir
- Oman Air has also joined the growing number of Middle East airlines planning to offer OnAir's inflight passenger communications services. From 2009, Oman Air passengers will be able to use mobile phones and BlackBerry-type devices, as well as access the Internet and use webmail and instant messaging.

Jet Airways offers Abu Dhabi route
- India's Jet Airways will begin flying to and from Abu Dhabi and the Indian cities of Mumbai and Delhi from April 23, reported Gulf News. The daily service will use Boeing 737-800 on the routes, with 126 economy class seats and 24 seats in the business class. The airline seeks to capture business and leisure travellers to India through its domestic network providing flight options to about 45 destinations within India.

ME aviation sector set to soar
- Middle East airports will increase three-folds by 2011 to meet the needs of the booming tourism and leisure industry, said Bjorn Naf, President and CEO, Gulf Air, while addressing Motor Sport Business Forum Middle East. He said that 500 new aircraft would enter the region during the next seven years to meet the demand. He added that the growth of the aviation industry in the region was 18% in 2007 and would be estimated at 8% in future compared with the 5% in the rest of the world, reported the Bahrain Tribune.

Etihad Crystal inks deal with Cargoitalia
- Etihad Crystal Cargo, a division of Etihad Airways, has signed an interline agreement and a codeshare arrangement with Cargoitalia, the Italian private freighter airline operating from Milan's Malpensa airport. The deal, which comes into effect from April 5, will provide customers with continued freighter capacity access between Abu Dhabi and Milan, where the service will link with Cargoitalia's network of destinations in the US and Central America. Etihad Crystal Cargo currently operates a twice weekly freighter service between Abu Dhabi and Milan, in addition to the airline's three-flights-a-week passenger service.

Jazeera launches Istanbul service
- Low-cost airline Jazeera Airways has launched a service between Kuwait and Istanbul in Turkey. It said the route was launched because of growing tourism, trade and investment between the two countries. The airline wants to see traffic on the route grow 30% by the end of this year.

Bahrain privatises airport operations
- Management of the Bahrain International Airport was officially transferred from the government to the newly-established Bahrain Airport Company yesterday under a privatisation deal. Under the agreement, the land rights of Bahrain International Airport have been transferred to BAC, which will develop and manage the accompanying services.
