The promotion will run from June 1 to July 31, 2003.
The promotion was announced by Mr. Abdulla Al Daboos, Director General, Emirates Post, at a press conference that was graced by some famous South Indian film stars who are in Dubai to perform at the Tamil Mega Star Night on May 29, 2003. The live mega-show is sponsored by Emirates Post as part of its efforts to support entertainment activities enjoyed by its target customers.
The 15 per cent discount is applicable to parcels sent from the UAE to India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan during the 61-day period. The parcels can be sent from Emirates Post's 72 post offices and 208 postal agencies in the UAE.
Launching the promotion, Mr. Al Daboos said: 'For many of our customers, sending parcels to south Asia and the Indian Subcontinent through Emirates Post has always been a highly cost-effective way of dispatching gifts to the near and dear ones back home. Now we have made it even more attractive to send parcels to this region by announcing a 15 per cent rebate on parcels for a two-month period. It is a promotion that will appeal strongly to our valued customers for whom sending parcels back home is an act of love.'
Mr. Al Daboos said the demand on postal services between the UAE and south Asia increases dramatically in summer and the number of bookings for the parcel service are substantially higher.
'We are delighted to launch this summer promotion to reward our customers who have strongly patronised our parcel service over the years,' Mr. Al Daboos added. 'It has been our endeavour to enhance our product with value additions at regular intervals. The innovations we have introduced to make the product more attractive reflect our strong resolve to upgrade our standards of services and retain customer loyalty. We are confident that the discounted rates in this promotion will spread joy and cheer among the senders as well as recipients.'
The launch press conference got a touch of glamour with the attendance of famous stars from South Indian showbiz, including Mumtaz, Abbas, Rati, Vindhya and C.B. Raj.
'It is appropriate that the summer promotion of our parcel service is being launched in the presence of some famous stars from the South Indian film industry,' said Mr. Al Daboos. 'I would like to thank the stars who have graced this occasion with their presence and would like to extend my good wishes for a great performance at the Tamil Mega Star Night in Dubai. As a sponsor of this major stage show, Emirates Post would like to send its greetings to the thousands of fans who would be thronging the Al Ahli stadium to enjoy this feast of live entertainment featuring some of their favourite stars.'
