Dubai Herbal & Treatment Center attracts big names in traditional medicine

Established under the guidance of HH Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Center houses three main departments which represent traditional Indian, Chinese and Arabic Herbal Medicines. "The Center was initially set up to offer an alternative to allopathic medicines to the people in the UAE", said Dr Redha.

"We have gone to Bangalore, India, in search of the best Doctor in Ayurvedic Medicine. Professor D.S. Lucas, will head the Ayurvedic Treatment Department at DH&TC. He was head of the Government Ayurvedic Medical College in Bangalore for over 30 years, practicing and teaching Ayurvedic Medicine. He is a fellow of the International Council of Ayurveda, USA as well as the Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society in London," said Dr Redha.

Professor Lucas' main focus at the Center will be the treatment of chronic diseases such as Therapies for rheumatism, arthritis, osteoarthritis, Asthma, liver diseases and post stroke patients.

"Professor Peng Rong Chen, from China, will head the Traditional Chinese Medicine Department. He was the Director of the Acupuncture Department of Beijing College of Acupuncture and Orthopedics and Vice President of the China Acupuncture Academy. His main focus is Headaches and migraines, abdominal disorders, paralysis and stress disorders. He has over 35 years experience in Acupuncture, Moxibustion and Chinese herbal medicines," added Dr Ali Redha.

Dr Moatassim Al-Hassan was the Director of the Zayed Complex for Herbal Research and Traditional Medicine, Abu Dhabi, before starting the Arabic Herbal Medicine Clinic at the DH&TC. His main focus is Diabetes and Gastro-intestinal disorders.

"By attracting experts in their fields, we aim to raise awareness about complementary medicines in the UAE," added Dr Redha. "Our practitioners had to undergo the licensing procedures employed by the Department of Health - like any other medical doctor - before they were allowed to practice in the UAE," added Dr Redha.
