Currently, the company enjoys 18 per cent market share in the UAE, a year after it made its foray into the laser printer market.

Our entry into the laser printer market globally is very strategic in nature said Mr. D.K. Byeon, President, Samsung Gulf Electronics, 'Samsung has come a long way in establishing the technology and core competency in the imaging solutions arena. The global success that we have been able to achieve is largely attributed to the reliable technology coupled with our innovative marketing techniques,' he added.

'Our wide range of product offerings will be our key growth propellant. With the inclusion of our new range of printers, we now have a total of 6 printer models covering 12ppm (pages per minute) to 21ppm range of laser printing solutions. Fulfilling our commitment of offering full line up, we plan to introduce up to 35ppm laser printer solution within this year,'added Mr. Taeho Roh, General Manager, Digital Information Technology Division, Samsung Gulf Electronics.

'UAE's laser printer market is expected to grow at the rate of 20 per cent. This growth rate is much higher than the cumulative average global industry growth rate of 4-5 per cent. Leveraging this remarkable industry growth rate in the UAE, Samsung is confident of further growing its market share by the end of 2004,' said Mr. K.S. Vasudevan, Senior Manager, Samsung Gulf Electronics.

'Our research highlighted three primary requirements of end-users; good printing quality, design element in terms of desk-top space saving and thirdly, value for money. Samsung range of printers by far fulfils all the above mentioned requirements,' added Mr. Vasudevan.

Laser printers account for around 25 per cent of the total printer demand that includes inkjet, multi-function as well as bubble-jet printers. With the advent of Sub US$200 printers, multi-function laser printers and color laser printers, the overall demand for laser printers could well exceed 35 per cent of the total printer demand by 2005. Various government initiatives are also seen to be propelling the demand for laser imaging solution.

'Samsung is rolling out three new models into the market in order to consolidate our leadership position in the market. The new models include 17ppm laser printer, 21ppm laser printer and a 17ppm based multi-function laser printer. This new line up will compliment the already existing 12ppm and 14ppm printers that have been well received in the market. Through this state-of-the-art products we will consolidate our position by aiming for 35 per cent market share by end of 2005,' concluded Mr. Vasudevan.
